Change the world

The federal government is looking for young people to play a role in shaping government policy and programs.

Minister for Youth Dr Anne Aly invited young people from across Australia to apply to be part of the Government’s Youth Steering Committee.

“Young people are uniquely placed to help shape practical solutions to the problems they are facing,” Dr Aly said.

“It’s an exciting time to join the Committee, help us implement Engage! and embed the role of young people in our democratic processes.”

Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid, is encouraging young people on the Central Coast to apply.

“The Federal Labor Government wants young people to have input on the policies that affect their lives,” Dr Reid said.

“I am encouraging young people between the age of 12 to 24 in the region to read up on what the committee will do and to apply if they would like to help build a better future.”

No experience is required.

The steering committee is made up of 14 members aged between 12 and 24.

Applications are sought from young people with a range of backgrounds and experiences including young people with a disability, young people with lived experience of mental ill-health and First Nations young people.

The Committee will work closely with Dr Aly, ensuring that young people are involved in government decision-making, including the implementation of Engage! A strategy to include young people in the decisions we make.

Applications to join the Youth Steering Committee close on Sunday 19 May 2024. More information is available at youth.gov.au.
