The Crowne Plaza at Terrigal will host the Australian Local Government Women’s Associations (ALGWA) annual conference next year from April 1 to 4.
The conference, with a theme of “The Next Wave: A New Era of Leadership”, is a national event that brings together elected representatives, council officers, and sector leaders to promote the advancement of women in local government.
It was announced at the 2025 ALGWA Conference that Central Coast Council was successful in the bid to host the 2027 conference.
”This presents a significant opportunity to showcase the region, strengthen partnerships, and contribute to leadership development across the sector,” Council said.
A cross-functional planning committee has been established to oversee planning and delivery.
The group includes representation from events, marketing, destination, the Mayor’s office, people and culture.
In March, the ALGWA 2026 Conference was held at Blacktown, where Central Coast Council promoted the 2027 event. Council presented a short video showcasing the Central Coast as the future host destination and providing delegates the opportunity to register their interest in attending.
In addition, Council hosted an information stall throughout the conference to engage directly with delegates, respond to enquiries and promote the Coast as the 2027 location.
Council’s community and culture committee was told recently that planning to date had focused on shaping a conference experience that balanced professional development with place-based delegate experiences.
”An off-site dining and networking event is being explored, with Glenworth Valley identified as the preferred option, and discussions are underway regarding a potential cultural performance,” the committee was told in May and was updated again in July.
There is $50,000 in the 2026-27 Financial Year budget allocated to the ALGWA conference.
In this financial year a total of $12,200 has been paid to Crowne Plaza as a deposit for the Conference.
Council says that financial planning for the event is being developed to ensure it is delivered on a cost-neutral basis for Council.
Delegate registration fees will be set based on the total cost of delivering the conference, including venue, program, and operational expenses.
The pricing structure will be informed by a detailed budget and may be supplemented through sponsorship opportunities where appropriate.
The overarching principle is that Council will not be out of pocket for hosting the event, with all costs to be recovered through delegate fees and associated revenue streams.
