The residents have spoken: we want fewer councillors
The Central Coast has voted 62-38 to have nine councillors instead of 15.
The results from the September 14 local government elections and referendum have not been finalised but the numbers don’t leave any other conclusion: the yes vote in the referendum is the winner.
That is based on 210,000 votes counted from a possible 260,000.
The question asked: “Do you favour a reduction in the number of Central Coast Councillors from 15 to 9 and a reduction in the number of wards from 5 to 3, with each ward electing 3 councillors?”
It means we will have 15 new councillors for one term and then we will vote for 9 councillors at the 2028 election.
