Council Watch

Watching Central Coast Council on behalf of fair-minded and reasonable people.

Central Coast Council Watch

The Entrance Ward – candidates

September 6, 2017 by Merilyn Vale

Bruce McLachlan – independent

You can whinge or stand up, and I have chosen to stand up for The Entrance ward, as a long-standing local businessman who, along with residents are sick to death of smoke and mirror Council decisions. My family business McLachlan Partners is 93 years old. You simply cannot survive in a  community without a good reputation of doing what’s right, and as an independent, I’m prepared to bring these sensible no nonsense  business skills, without any  party politics, not waste money, and can vote on resident merit, not be dictated by party lines.
I am not aware of the Fitzgerald code.
See more on Facebook.

Nathan Bracken – independent

I want to make sure that the Central Coast Council gets back to taking care of what councils do best….. Back to basics: Rates, Roads, and Rubbish. These issues seem to be a reoccurring theme. I want to listen to the people of the Central Coast and give them a voice. Not having a personal agenda, means I will listen to residents and give them a vision for the Coast that is a unified approach to addressing issues that residents in both the North and South of the Coast have. We are one Coast, with a common goal of making the Central Coast the very best place to live. Having been a Central Coast resident for almost 15 years I understand what living here is all about. I have been at the top of my game; but also at the very bottom too. I’m not afraid to stand up for what is right, what is fair and what is just…… I am not afraid to stand up for the Central Coast and what the residents need and want from a fair and transparent council.
* Nathan has signed the Fitzgerald Principles.

Aaron Harpley-Carr – independent

A vote for me guarantees a truly independent local voice for the Central Coast, fair, balanced and true transparent local government.
I don’t have any preference deals or party alliances and believe this is a huge advantage, meaning anything and everything presented to Council will be evaluated impartially and with local consultation. We all want the best for the Central Coast, The Councillors need to act and remember that.
I completely agree and believe the Fitzgerald Principles should be rolled out across all levels of Government.
If elected, at the very first Council meeting I will present a document outlining the Fitzgerald Principles and call on all Councillors to sign, committing to said principles to truly represent the best for the Central Coast.

Cath Connor – The Greens

As a Green candidate, I have four goals which will underpin my approach to policy-making on Council.  They are to promote environmental sustainability, to ensure social equity and fairness, to foster grassroots democracy and to act honestly and ethically.

Planning and development need to be smart and must recognize and value our environment. It must be accompanied by required infrastructure – public transport, bike paths, road and rail, pre-schools, TAFE and university facilities, public wifi hubs, sporting facilities, amazing playgrounds and open spaces.  Affordable housing and access to services are a priority. To foster grassroots democracy I would actively listen to, and consult with the community.

I have no hesitation in pledging to follow the wonderfully clear and unambiguous Fitzgerald Principles of Good Governance.

Doug Williamson – Greens

The new Central Coast Council, with reduced levels of local representation, stands at an environmental and developmental crossroad. Should CCC be dominated by cashed-up developers who see this region just as a honey pot waiting for them to bulldoze, clear and build all over without adequate planning, urban infrastructure, public transport, clean air or water; or should the 10/50 clearing regulations and oversized steel and glass shoeboxes on the best land in the region consigned to history as a case study in inadequate knee-jerk planning?

The Greens offer the Coast an opportunity to change how our community and our beautiful region is managed now to where we provide for all of us today, preserve the environment for the those who will come after us and to showcase how we do this to surrounding regions. After all, unless we change direction, it follows that we will continue to go the same way that we are currently headed and previous history has been somewhat less than stellar.

I support the Fitzgerald principles for open and honest behaviour unequivocally and hope that all incoming councillors in CCC will follow them in both word and intent.

Jilly Pilon – Liberal Party

I’m a lifelong resident of the Central Coast with my family, and co-owner of manufacturing business Trimlite at Tuggerah for the past 24 years, employing 20-30 locals. I am excited about the opportunity to have a stronger, united and more financially sound Central Coast Council, delivering the infrastructure, jobs and support that local residents and businesses deserve.
I am running for the Central Coast Council to make a positive difference for our community. This is an ideal opportunity not only to deliver essential services and road upgrades, but to pave the way for responsible development and create visions and plans around tourism, sport and leisure, business, the arts, and major events for our community to enjoy.
An example of my track record would be as an advocate for Donate Life and Transplant Australia, raising awareness around organ donation. I’ve also been working closely with the Government, Council and the community to deliver Banjo’s Skatepark.
