Should we change the names of our council wards? And should we spend $48,000 to ask 1000 people what they think about the idea?
The question comes up in a report to councillors tomorrow night.
But the council is not recommending it spend the money.
It is information in response to a Cr Best-led vote a few weeks ago to investigate the process of renaming wards because the current names are confusing to residents.
The report says the cost of a ten minute survey asking a sample of 1000 residents would cost $48,000.
That survey would canvas new names and ask for feedback on the options.
A cheaper five minute survey focusing on awareness of the current ward names would cost less: $35,000.
But the recommendation is they survey advisory group members (presumably for free….) and report back to the councillors.
Do you know what ward you are in?
Do you like the name?
Do you have a better name
