Streets ahead: decisions from the traffic committee

June 13, 2023 by Merilyn Vale

1/ A 91-lot residential subdivision at 99, 103 & 107 Sparks Road, Woongarrah has received the Local Traffic Committee’s endorsement for the line marking and sign posting plans for the new subdivision’s road network, intersection upgrades and parking controls.

2/ Road improvement plans for a Waste Transfer Station at Lot 90 Mooramba Avenue, Tuggerah have also been inspected by the committee.

“The intent of the proposal appears to be to provide some controls around the existing single lane, narrow road and anticipated heavy vehicle use,” the committee said.

“It was noted that similar controls exist at short, single lane bridges, however these restrictions are typically not implemented on longer lengths of road.

“Committee Members agreed to note the proposal, however the site will be monitored by Council and adjustments made, if required,” the minutes state.

3/ Roadworks will be undertaken at Chittaway Bay after residents complained about multiple crashes occurring on Chittaway Road, including at the intersection with Aloha Drive and Lakedge Avenue, Chittaway Bay.

A representative of Red Bus Services on the committee said the improvements would benefit bus services along the route.

4/ No parking signage at Waterview Street near the intersection Rawson Road, Woy Woy will be installed to improve safety in the area after residents complained that vehicles were parking within the statutory 10 metres of the intersection causing sight distance concerns.

5/ No Parking area will replace No Stopping signs along The Esplanade, Umina Beach, from Ocean Beach Road to Berith Street, and from Berith Street to Trafalgar Avenue.

Residents had complained the No Stopping signs did not allow them to stop to open or close a gate or to stop to pick up or drop off passengers or deliveries.

The Esplanade is a 6m wide one-way road with No Stopping restrictions along both sides of the road, to ensure traffic is able to move freely along the road without being impeded by parked cars.

When will all these works take place? The committee notes that the works will be done “as soon as work priorities allow….” except for items one and two which are the responsibility of the developers.

These decisions were made at latest meeting of the traffic committee on May 17.

The next meeting is June 21.
