Seniors and Child Care parking to disappear

January 1, 2023 by Merilyn Vale

Seniors looking to park beside and behind the 50+ Leisure and Learning Centre at Gosford will no longer have exempt parking.
Neither will drivers accessing the child care centre in Henry Wheeler Place.
Council’s local traffic committee has decided it is more equitable to simply allow four hour parking for anybody.
The committee, which met late last year, has voted unanimously to:
# Remove all “No parking: Vehicles displaying Senior Citizens Card Exempt”
# Remove all “No parking: Gosford Community Child Care Vehicles Only”
# Remove all “5 Min Drop off Pick Up Area for Preschool Vehicles Only”
# Remove all “No parking: National Parks & Wildlife Vehicles Exempt”.
In their place the signs will say: “4P 8:30am – 6pm Mon-Fri”.
The changes are to be undertaken as soon as work priorities permit.
According to the minutes, Council “identified an opportunity” to improve the on-street parking within Henry Wheeler Place.
Businesses, organisations and community facility users currently have sections of sign-posted business-specific parking in the street.
The traffic committee says this is not supported by the NSW road rules and is not equitable for other road users in the Gosford CBD.
“To provide equitable and suitable parking to meet the competing needs of the relevant businesses, organisations, community facilities and road users, it is proposed to remove all business specific parking and replace with either unrestricted parking or timed 4P parking as shown on the plan at Attachment 1,” the minutes say.
(Attachment 1 is the screenshot.)
The minutes say that consultation was carried out with all adjacent businesses, organisations and community groups.
“The feedback received by Council has been assessed in order to provide a balanced opportunity for parking and incorporated into the final plan,” the minutes state.
“Committee member representing TfNSW sought information on the disabled parking space located on Albany Street North.
“Council Officers advised that the disabled parking space is existing and is not planned to be altered.”
