McKinna is Mayor

October 30, 2024 by Merilyn Vale

Team Central Coast’s Lawrie McKinna was voted in as Mayor at the October 8 extraordinary meeting – the first meeting of this council.

There were two nominations for mayor: Kyle MacGregor and Lawrie McKinna
The vote was seven for MacGregor and eight for McKinna.
The Liberals and Team Central Coast voted for McKInna while Labor and two independents voted for MacGregor.
There were two nominations for deputy mayor: Doug Eaton and Belinda Neal.
The voting went the same way which saw the president of the Warnervale branch of the Liberal Party, Doug Eaton, elected deputy.
Mayor McKinna was the last mayor of Gosford council and Deputy Eaton was the last mayor of Wyong council.
The two former councils merged in 2016 to become Central Coast Council.
The mayoral election came after 14 councillors, physically present at the chambers, took their oath of office.
Cr John Mouland zoomed in from Europe.
He had earlier taken his oath of office at the Australian Embassy in Madrid.
Councillors voted 8-7 to allow him to attend the meeting and to participate in the voting.

Councillors dealt with a small number of items on the agenda including a motion about the Performance Improvement Order imposed by the Local Government Minister on which they will seek legal advice.
The first ordinary meeting of Council will be held on October 29.
