Budgewoi – candidates

September 6, 2017 by Merilyn Vale

Rowan Turnbull – Labor

As a young person who grew up, went to school and now works in the Budgewoi ward I feel I have strong roots in the area. I work as a pharmacist in Toukley, in this role I have been able to develop a great relationship with many people in the local community. As a Pharmacist you are able to develop a good sense of what is working well in the area and what is not through jovial conversations with your patients. I chose to run as a Labor candidate as I was inspired by the strong actions taken by the local Labor team to help save Wyong Hospital from part-privatization. I believe the local Labor team cares deeply about the sustainable growth and smart development of our beautiful area.

People may know me from the basketball community as I played first grade men’s for the Central Coast Crusaders. I attended Lake Munmorah High School and Primary school so many people know me from the Lake Munmorah Community.

I am a supporter of the Carter’s Road action group which are pushing for the council to fix the traffic nightmare in the Lake Munmorah school zone.

Greg Simmonds – The Greens

I have lived in Norah Head for 12 years. Prior to settling on the Central Coast, I held many senior consultant and Principal positions in Education in the north of the state.

I believe and promote the importance of a healthy urban environment including well maintained open spaces for our growing Central Coast community. I an active supporter of environmental and social campaigns and I am committed to sincere community consultation. I will work with all councilors to ensure decision making is transparent and that those decisions improve and maintain a healthy, safe and enjoyable life style with access to necessary services while protecting and nurturing our beautiful coastal environment for present day and future residents.

I have signed the Fitzgerald Principles

Garry Whitaker – Liberal Party

I’ve got a strong background in community service, being a 45 year volunteer with the NSW State Emergency Service, and ten years as a volunteer firefighter with the NSW Rural Fire Service.
I believe that the people of the Central Coast have a golden, once in a lifetime, opportunity to build a strong, new, community-focussed Council that will be the platform for growth in long term jobs, sensible infrastructure and appropriate development.
I’ll be looking hard at Council’s finances and expenditure programs to ensure that we get value for our rates dollars, and that we concentrate on the core business of Council. Let’s put the community first for a change!
I’m a Director of the Newcastle Anglican Church Corporation, Chairman of the Board of the Wyong Race Club, Director of the Wyong Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank. Before moving to the Coast in 2005, I was Deputy Mayor of Hornsby Shire.
Council must understand the community needs, and will work with all levels of Government to fight for our fair share of funding on the Central Coast. Only a strong conservative Liberal Council will protect and grow our $9.6 billion in assets, and ensure the $204 million Capital Works budget is spent in our Central Coast region.
